Bay City, Mich., March 4th — The Handy Bro.’s, Mining Co. has completely equipped its new mine, three miles west of the city in the shortest time on record for similar work. Work was begun September 15, last, on the shaft and coal was reached December 20. December 28 ground was broken for the powerhouse, tipple, washrooms, etc., and tomorrow the entire mine will go into commission.
The tipple is of the latest construction, embodying many new features. It has four railroad tracks and can load four cars simultaneously, with four different sizes of coal. The mine will have a capacity of 1,000 tons daily. Handy Bro.’s, will in the spring begin the sinking of a similar shaft on the east side of the river at the city limits if the strike does not interfere.
