A gang of men with teams, plows and scrapers, started work today excavating for the basement of a handsome brick block which Thos. L. Handy proposes to build at the northeast corner of Fifth and Water streets next summer. Plans for the building have not yet been made, but Mr. Handy is having the excavating done at this time, as there is an opportunity to dispose of the surplus dirt by a short haul, all of it being taken to the Wenonah hotel park site.
“I do not know just what of sort of a building I will put up,” said Mr. Handy this morning, “but it will be one that will be in keeping with the beauty we are promised in the park and I trust, a credit to the locality. I expect that work will be started on the structure next summer.”
