Arvilla Rae (Herrick) Schmidt MacPhail was born in Bay City, MI on November 30, 1918 to the late Orva and Mildred (Wandz) Herrick. She passed away January 12, 2019 in Bay City, MI. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Prior to retirement, Rae was employed at T. L. Handy High School for 21 years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard F. Schmidt in 1983 and her second husband Wallace M. MacPhail, Sr. in 2015. She is survived by her daughters: Sally (Timothy) Kriewall and Linda Hartz, her grandchildren: Jeff (Beth) Hartz, Jason (Jamie) Hartz, Julie (Jamie) Wheelock, Karen (Larry) Seafert, Jennifer (Keith) Berry, Bethany (Tim) Hilgendorf, and Mike (Katrina) Kriewall, her step children: Mary Jo (Michael) Neering and Wallace (Sharon) MacPhail, her step grandchildren John (Heather) MacPhail, Andrew MacPhail, Mike (Kristin) Neering, Jr., and Julie (Kevin) Reynolds and several great grandchildren and a sister Rose (Ron) Koeplinger.
Funeral and committal service will be Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Linda B. Williams will officiate. Private burial will be at Elm Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wisconsin Lutheran College’s Nursing Care Excellence Scholarship or Westminster Presbyterian Church. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home. She will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service begins.
