Joan Spencer (White) Samocki Pergande of Essexville passed away at the Woodland Hospice House in Mount Pleasant on April 30, 2020. She was born on November 22, 1941 in Washington, Missouri to Martha and William Marden White, who both predeceased her. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gerald W. Pergande, her two daughters, Juliet Samocki and her husband, Matthew Samocki, and Jean Rock, and her husband, Dan Rock, along with 4 grandchildren, Genevieve Samocki, Josephine Samocki, Daniel Rock, and Elizabeth Rock as well a sister, Kimberly Hubble of Burton, a brother, William Curtis White, and his wife, Patricia of Midland, a step sister, Elizabeth Loll of Bay City, a brother-in-law, Joseph Pergande and his wife, Jane of Essexville, and many nieces and nephews. Joan was a 1959 graduate of T.L. Handy High School, attended Central Michigan University and was an employee of the Dow Chemical Company in Midland. She led a very active life and was involved at various times as a girl scout leader, a long time Sunday school teacher at the First United Methodist Church, and the Bay City Aquamarines Synchronized Swimming Club. Her hobbies were knitting, quilt making, wood-carving, sewing, and staying connected with her many friends and family.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, private services will take place on Monday, May 4, 2020 at Trahan Funeral Chapel with private interment in Floral Gardens Cemetery. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. The family gives thanks to the staffs of Golden Horizons of Bay City, Nottingham Place and MidMichigan Hospital, both of Midland, Woodland Hospice House of Mount Pleasant and her many friends for their kind and helpful treatment of Joan during her illnesses.
