Herman W. Lutz, Lima, Ohio Herman passed away unexpectedly at his home in Ohio on Wednesday January 27, 2016, age 71. He was born on November 3, 1944 in Auburn. Herman grew up on a farm near Auburn, Michigan. He was the son of the late Albert and Anna (Hachtel) Lutz. He graduated from T. L. Handy High School in 1962, worked for Consumers’ Power Company after high school, served in the U.S. Army for two years having spent most of his time in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He also was a graduate of Michigan State University and briefly worked for Standard Oil Co. He recently had worked for the City of Lima, Ohio from which he retired. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lima, where he did a lot of volunteer work during his retirement, he will greatly be missed by his church family. Herman had the chance to travel around the world watching solar eclipses in different countries, which was his passion.
Herman is survived by his siblings; Elaine (Charles) Malecki of Midland, John (Betty) Lutz of Freeland, Anna Lewandowski of Clarkston, Robert (Joan) Lutz of Bay City, Albert (Laurie) Lutz, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. He was also pre-deceased by one brother; Leonard and two infant siblings. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday February 4, 2016 at the Auburn Chapel of the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. Rev. Robert G. Schmidt will officiate with burial to follow in Home Cemetery (Monitor Twp.). Herman’s family will receive friends at the Auburn Chapel on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until time of service.
