John C. Noell of Burton, Michigan, formerly of Bay City. John C. Noell, age 87 years, died August 31, 2009 in Flint. He was born in Hornersville, MO on September 18, 1921 to the late John B. and Ann E. (Meredith) Noell. John served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He served as principal of T.L. Handy High School and was a retired administrator from the Bay City Public School System. He was a member of the MASSP, BARSP, and the Michigan and National Associations of Retired School Personnel. John was a member the First United Methodist Church in Bay City and Atherton United Methodist Church in Burton. He served as a lay delegate to the Detroit and Michigan Conferences of the United Methodist Church. He was a longtime member and past president of the Rotary Club of Bay City.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marion F. Roat, whom he married December 23, 1943 in Harlingen, TX. He also leaves a niece, Joan (Fred) Vance. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry D. Noell on May 4, 1968.
Funeral and committal service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Atherton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bruce L. Billing will officiate. Private burial will be at East Dayton Cemetery, Wells Twp., MI. Memorials may be made to Atherton United Methodist Church. Friends may call at Penzien – Steele Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. He will lie in state at the Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time.
