Ronald Robert Hughes, age 68 years, died Saturday, January 19, 2008 at his home. He was born January 6, 1940 to the late Robert L. and Dorothy V. (Clutter) in Bay City. Ron was a graduate of St. James High School Class of 1958 and Hillsdale College where he received his Bachelors Degree and played quarterback on the football team. He was employed by the Bay City Public School System from which he retired in 1997 as Athletic/Facility Director of Handy Middle School. Previously, Ron was head football coach and varsity softball coach at T. L. Handy High School. He was a member of the B.C.E.A. and the M.E.A. Ron volunteered his time at the Boys and Girls Club of Bay County and loved to golf, but his favorite thing to do was to take care of his family. He was a “Pro” babysitter.
He is survived by his two children, Courtenay (Joseph) Bourdow, Shawn Hughes; his grandchildren: Owen Joseph and Izabella Marie Bourdow; three brothers: Thomas (Nancy) Hughes, William (Mary Jo) Hughes, Timothy (Patti) Hughes; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the W.A. Trahan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert J. DeLand presiding. Cremation will follow and burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., and Wednesday after 10:00 a.m. at the Trahan Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be designated for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bay County, Inc.
