Thomas J. Wakefield of Atlanta Age 64, died Wednesday March 28th at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Mr. Wakefield was born on May 5, 1947 in Bay City, MI. to Harold and Jeanette (Filary) Wakefield. He was raised in the Bay City area, and graduated from T.L. Handy High School in 1965. He enlisted in the service after graduation, and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict.
After his service ended, he was employed at the General Motors Plant #6 in Saginaw for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He married Carol (Schoof) on August 23, 1969 in Bay City, and after his retirement the couple moved north to Atlanta. Thomas was very active in scouting all his life. Not only as a youth growing up, but continuing on into his adult years. He was strongly associated with Troop 108 in Bay City, and also Troop #86 and Cub Scout Pack #3086 in Onaway. He loved the outdoors, and spent time camping, hunting and fishing. He is a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and was a lifetime VFW member. Tom is survived by his wife Carol of Atlanta, son Scott, and daughter Karen (Dale “Dusty”) Trisch, both of Bay City and two grandchildren Baylee & Savannah Trisch. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Timothy. A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, April 11th at 11:00 a.m. from St. Paul Catholic Church in Onaway. Visitation will be at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway on Tuesday, April 10th from 5-8 p.m.
